Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) Odisha's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, reflected on the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention (PBD) that took place in Bhubaneshwar last year. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s significant efforts in connecting with Indians abroad and motivating their involvement in the nation’s progress.
The event in 2025 marked the 18th edition of the Bharatiya Divas Convention, making it the inaugural event in eastern India, in line with the Central government’s ‘Purvodaya’ initiative.
Sharing a video statement on the popular social media platform X, CM Majhi reminisced about the diaspora gathering that occurred in January 2025, where Non-Resident Indians felt an 'instant connect' with PM Modi.
He stated, “The Prime Minister has actively engaged with overseas Indians, urging them to take part in India’s economic and social development.”
“From his tenure as Gujarat CM to his current role as Prime Minister, PM Modi has persistently underscored the significance of the Indian diaspora in the nation’s advancement. He regards Non-Resident Indians as crucial allies in nation-building, capable of providing insights, investments, innovations, and global perspectives,” he added.
Majhi also mentioned that the Prime Minister encouraged the diaspora to engage and collaborate in promoting Odisha’s culture, handicrafts, handlooms, and traditional art forms, acting as ambassadors for tourism, not just for Odisha but for the entire country.
Importantly, the PBD event in Odisha, themed “Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” emphasized the motto of PBD — recognizing the contributions of Indians overseas and reinforcing their ties to the nation.
CM Majhi further stated that under PM Modi’s guidance, interactions with the diaspora have been outcome-oriented.
“Efforts are in place to link global talent with India’s demands in sectors like entrepreneurship, technology, skill development, and social initiatives. This occasion reaffirms that Indians worldwide continue to play a vital role in shaping India’s future,” he added.
It is noteworthy that the PBD is celebrated biennially to enhance the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the Government of India and to reconnect them with their cultural heritage.
