Bangkok, April 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside other leaders of BIMSTEC, reiterated his dedication to enhancing collaboration across various sectors during his attendance at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok on Friday.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit unites leaders from India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Bhutan to promote collaboration in connectivity, development, and regional economic integration.

Upon arrival, PM Modi, along with Nepali PM K.P. Sharma Oli, Bhutanese PM Tshering Tobgay, Sri Lankan PM Harini Amarasuriya, Bangladeshi interim government Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, and Myanmar's military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, were welcomed by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

In a post on X, PM Modi stated, "With fellow BIMSTEC leaders at the Summit taking place in Bangkok, Thailand. We reaffirm our commitment to enhancing cooperation across diverse sectors. May our efforts yield a positive impact in the lives of our citizens."

Earlier that day, PM Modi had a meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, discussing bilateral relations and India's assistance following the catastrophic earthquake in Myanmar.

"Met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. Once again, I expressed my condolences regarding the loss of lives and property due to the recent earthquake," PM Modi shared on X.

"India is doing everything possible to support our sisters and brothers in Myanmar during this critical time," he added.

India has been providing humanitarian aid under 'Operation Brahma' following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that resulted in over 3,000 fatalities in Myanmar.

On Thursday, PM Modi engaged in bilateral discussions with Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the Government House in Bangkok, where both leaders decided to enhance bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership.

The discussions encompassed a variety of cooperation areas, culminating in the signing of important agreements to further solidify ties between the two nations.

Prior to his visit, PM Modi emphasized the significance of BIMSTEC in promoting regional prosperity, stating, "BIMSTEC has emerged as a crucial platform for regional development, connectivity, and economic advancement. I anticipate fruitful engagements with fellow leaders to deepen cooperation and ensure mutual benefits for our people."

His participation highlights India's commitment to its Neighbourhood First and Act East policies, aligning with its broader Indo-Pacific vision.
