Bangkok, April 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of Myanmar's military government, during the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. Their discussion centered on strengthening bilateral relations and offering support in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake that impacted Myanmar.
This meeting represents the first official encounter between the two leaders in PM Modi's third term.
On social media platform X, PM Modi elaborated on their discussions, stating, "I met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. I once again extended my condolences regarding the loss of lives and property damage caused by the recent earthquake."
He further noted, "India is committed to doing everything possible to aid our sisters and brothers in Myanmar during this critical time."
In response to the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that resulted in over 3,000 fatalities, India initiated Operation Brahma, positioning itself as the first responder in alignment with its Neighbourhood First and Act East policies.
As part of this operation, India has sent significant quantities of medical supplies and essential relief materials to Myanmar.
PM Modi had previously expressed profound sorrow regarding the disaster and conveyed India's condolences directly to Min Aung Hlaing, reaffirming India’s dedication to supporting Myanmar during this challenging period.
In addition to earthquake relief efforts, the leaders also examined avenues for enhancing cooperation between their nations.
