Pramono Anung Emerges Victorious in Jakarta Gubernatorial Election

Jakarta, Dec 8 (NationPress) Indonesia's former Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election following the completion of the vote tally by the Jakarta division of the country's General Elections Commission (KPU) on Sunday afternoon.
Based on the official results, Pramono, alongside his running mate Rano Karno, an actor and politician who held the position of provincial Governor of Banten in the past, received 50.07 percent of the overall votes.
They successfully outpaced former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and his partner, former Agriculture Minister Suswono, who obtained 39.40 percent of the votes, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
In a different race, former deputy head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency Dharma Pongrekun and his running mate Kun Wardhana, a noted scholar, secured 10.53 percent.
Nonetheless, the Jakarta branch of the KPU will await a ruling from the Constitutional Court due to the possibility of electoral disputes following the official vote tally.
Pramono served as the Cabinet Secretary from 2015 to 2024 under President Joko Widodo. He is a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and previously held a seat in the House of Representatives from 2004 to 2015, including a term as Deputy Speaker from 2009 to 2014.
