Kabul, Oct 30 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, three individuals lost their lives and 18 others sustained injuries due to a collision involving a tractor and two passenger vehicles in Laghman province, eastern Afghanistan, as reported by the provincial police office on Thursday.

The accident happened on Wednesday evening in the Surkhakan area along the highway connecting Kabul to the eastern province of Nangarhar. The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of three commuters, including a woman and a child, while 18 others were injured, several of them critically, according to a statement by the Xinhua News Agency.

The primary cause of the accident was identified as reckless driving.

In the past week alone, at least 11 people have died and nearly 40 others have been injured in a series of road incidents across the eastern provinces, including Laghman, Khost, Ghazni, as well as northern Badakhshan and Balkh.

Road accidents continue to be a significant cause of fatalities in Afghanistan, often attributed to reckless driving, congested road conditions, and a lack of traffic signage on deteriorating highways.

On September 26, provincial police reported another fatal incident where a commuter was killed, and 11 others were injured in a head-on collision in Jawzjan province.

The crash involved two passenger vehicles in the Qarabuyen Olya region along the highway connecting Jawzjan to Balkh province, resulting in one death at the scene and 11 injuries, as stated by the police.

Reckless driving was again blamed for this tragic occurrence, with the injured promptly taken to a nearby health facility for urgent care, where many remain in critical condition.

On September 25, a car overturned in Laghman province, killing one traveler and injuring three others, according to the provincial police office.

This accident, attributed to reckless driving, occurred in the Kakakh region along the highway linking Kabul to Nangarhar, leading to the immediate death of one passenger and injuries to three.
