Moscow, Aug 15 (NationPress) Russia is poised to clarify its stance during the forthcoming summit featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, as reported by Russian media on Friday.

Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, emphasized during his arrival in Alaska that there are no pre-planned agendas. “We possess compelling arguments and a position that is both clear and understandable,” he conveyed in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel. He expressed confidence that their points would be effectively communicated.

He noted that a significant foundation for discussions had been established during the recent visit of Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to Russia. “We are optimistic about continuing this productive dialogue tomorrow,” he added.

The much-anticipated meeting is set to occur in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday.

Yuri Ushakov, a presidential aide, indicated that the summit would commence with a private session exclusively for the two leaders and their interpreters, which will be followed by broader discussions involving five representatives from each side, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The agenda is expected to center around the resolution of the Ukraine crisis and tackle “wider objectives for maintaining peace and security, along with pressing international and regional matters.”

On Thursday, Trump assessed the likelihood of a successful outcome from his meeting with Putin in Alaska at merely 25 percent.

In a conversation with Fox News Radio, Trump likened the meeting to “a chess game,” suggesting that he believes Putin aims to make headway toward an agreement regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

He mentioned that if they achieve positive outcomes, it could pave the way for a subsequent meeting that would also involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump issued a warning on Wednesday, stating that Russia would encounter “very severe consequences” should Putin decline to accept a ceasefire amidst the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
