Gwangmyeong, April 15 (NationPress) Rescue teams are in their fifth day of searching for a worker who has gone missing following the collapse of a subway construction site in the city of Gwangmyeong.

The incident occurred at the construction site for the Sinansan Line on Friday, leading to a portion of the road above ground giving way and damaging several nearby buildings, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

All but one worker, who is in his 50s, have been located safe or rescued.

The search efforts continued through the night, employing 95 personnel and 31 pieces of equipment, including four fire trucks equipped with smoke extraction devices and lights, according to the Gyeonggi Fire Service.

Seven rescue workers descended into the construction site to explore the interior but reported no signs of the missing worker, according to officials.

Rescue workers also removed debris from 20 to 30 meters underground and from the container where the missing individual was last seen, yet they were unable to find him.

The container is reportedly filled with soil and sand, complicating the search efforts.

"We need to ensure a secure entry point so that we can deploy at least a small crane at the bottom of the underground tunnel, which would expedite the search, but the process was hampered by last night's rainfall," stated a firefighting official.

The missing worker is believed to be located 35 to 40 meters underground, but his precise location and condition remain unverified.
