South Korea: National Assembly to Interrogate PM and Ministers Regarding Martial Law Implementation

Seoul, Dec 14 (NationPress) The South Korean National Assembly is preparing to convene a parliamentary session on Friday to interrogate the Prime Minister and various officials who were present at a contentious Cabinet meeting that occurred shortly before President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law announcement.
The main opposition party, the Democratic Party (DP), is also set to introduce a new impeachment motion against Yoon following his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law, just days after he narrowly avoided impeachment due to insufficient quorum, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
During the upcoming interpellation session, opposition lawmakers are anticipated to probe the Cabinet members about Yoon's public address the day prior, which predominantly focused on defending his martial law declaration and refuting claims that it constituted an act of insurrection.
The opposition has demanded the presence of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, Education Minister Lee Ju-ho, and Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, among others.
In a previous interpellation session on Wednesday, Han expressed regret over the martial law controversy and stated that there was no consensus among the Cabinet members regarding Yoon's proposal during the brief meeting held mere moments before the declaration.
The DP intends to bring Yoon's new impeachment motion to a vote during a parliamentary plenary session on Saturday.
According to legal provisions, an impeachment motion must be voted on within 24 to 72 hours after being reported to a plenary session.
After the initial motion was retracted, the DP pledged to advocate for the approval of Yoon's impeachment on a weekly basis.
