South Korea Reports Two New Cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza on Local Farms

Seoul, Dec 3 (NationPress) South Korea has identified two additional cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza at local farms, increasing the total number of cases for this season to seven.

Officials indicated that the incidents occurred at a duck farm located in Gangjin, situated in South Jeolla Province, approximately 410 kilometers south of Seoul, and at a chicken farm in Sejong, which is around 113 kilometers south of the capital, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.

Farm operators observed an alarming spike in livestock fatalities the day before, leading quarantine officials to initiate comprehensive inspections.

The Gangjin facility housed about 22,000 ducks, while the Sejong farm had roughly 233,000 chickens.

In an effort to halt further transmission, the government has mandated a nationwide standstill for all poultry farms, effective until 1 P.M. on Wednesday. Authorities are currently conducting epidemiological investigations and implementing culling measures at the affected farms.
