Quito, Nov 6 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita engaged in crucial discussions with Ecuadorian Ministers, Vice Ministers, and officials on Thursday, aiming to enhance cooperation between India and the South American nation across vital sectors such as agriculture, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, training, education, culture, tourism, trade, textiles, health, and pharmaceuticals.
The MoS reiterated India’s dedication to collaborate with Ecuador under the framework of South-South cooperation.
On social media platform X, Margherita expressed: "Thrilled to meet with Ecuadorian Ministers, Vice Ministers, and officials from various Ministries. Our discussions were productive, focusing on strengthening cooperation in agriculture, AI & cybersecurity, training, education, culture, tourism, trade, textiles, health & pharmaceuticals. India is committed to working with Ecuador in the spirit of South-South cooperation."
During his official visit, Margherita also met with Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs, Gabriela Sommerfeld.
The two sides examined opportunities to enhance collaboration in political, trade, pharmaceuticals, training, capacity building, and additional areas of mutual interest. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster cooperation between the diplomatic training institutions of India and Ecuador.
"We had a productive meeting with Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs of Ecuador. We discussed strategies to bolster bilateral relations, particularly in political, trade, pharmaceuticals, training, and capacity building, alongside other mutual priorities. We signed an MoU on cooperation between our diplomatic training institutions," posted Margherita on X.
On Wednesday, the MoS and Foreign Minister Sommerfeld jointly inaugurated the resident Embassy of India in Quito, which underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with Ecuador.
"I am honored and excited to jointly inaugurate the resident Embassy of India in Quito with Gabriela Sommerfeld, Foreign Minister of Ecuador. This symbolizes India’s dedication to deepening its partnership with Ecuador and marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations," Margherita shared on X.
The MoS also engaged with representatives from the Ecuadorian business community, exploring avenues to strengthen bilateral trade connections between India and Ecuador.
Margherita arrived in Quito on Tuesday for his inaugural visit to the Latin American country. This trip to Ecuador is the first leg of Margherita’s official tour across three nations in the Latin America and Caribbean Region - Ecuador, Bolivia, and Cuba, from November 4-10.
