Khartoum, Jan 25 (NationPress) The Sudanese government declared that its military forces have secured significant victories in the capital Khartoum, following reports of breaking the siege on the army's General Command headquarters.

According to government spokesperson Khalid Ali Aleisir, "The achievements of our resolute army in Khartoum Bahri, El Fasher, Kordofan, and various battlefronts mark a critical juncture in our path to restoring peace and stability to our cherished nation."

He reiterated the army's resolve to persist in combat until all militias, insurgents, mercenaries, and their domestic and foreign backers are eradicated, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

A military insider informed Xinhua that the army successfully lifted the siege imposed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the General Command headquarters in Khartoum. Footage shared by Sudanese army personnel depicted scenes from the area surrounding the headquarters, which had been encircled by the RSF since mid-April 2023.

The insider further stated that army units also managed to break the siege on the Signal Corps located south of Bahri city, north of Khartoum, after several days of intense clashes with the RSF.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a catastrophic conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, resulting in an estimated 27,000 fatalities and nearly 15 million displaced individuals, either within or outside Sudan, according to the latest reports from international organizations.

In western Sudan, violence has escalated in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

The Joint Force, comprising the SAF and allied military factions, announced on Friday that they successfully repelled a significant assault by the RSF on El Fasher from multiple fronts.

The governor of Sudan's Darfur region, Minni Arko Minnawi, confirmed in a statement on Friday that the armed forces and local resistance have "imparted a lesson to the militias, forcing them to withdraw in defeat."

Since May 10, 2024, the RSF has maintained a siege on El Fasher, while the Sudanese army has continued to defend the city, which remains under its control.
