Syrian Rebel Forces Offer Amnesty to Military Conscripts

Damascus, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Syrian opposition forces that have seized control of Damascus have announced a comprehensive amnesty for all military personnel who were conscripted into obligatory service.

In their statement, the Military Operations Department of these forces proclaimed, "We are granting amnesty to all military conscripts under compulsory service. Their safety is assured, and any acts of aggression against them are strictly forbidden."

This amnesty is perceived as part of extensive reconciliation initiatives aimed at reintegrating military personnel who may have been captured or deserted during the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime, according to reports from the Xinhua news agency citing the official news agency SANA.

Details regarding the amnesty's specifics or its potential effects have not yet been disclosed.

In an astonishing development on Sunday, the rebel forces in Syria took control of the capital Damascus and proclaimed the conclusion of Assad's rule, following a swift offensive that led to the fall of major Syrian cities in less than two weeks.
