Syria's Air Defense Intercepts Two Drones Over Damascus

Damascus, December 5 (NationPress) - The air defense units of Syria successfully intercepted two hostile drones over the capital city of Damascus on Thursday, as reported by the Syrian Defense Ministry.
The ministry issued a statement saying, “Our air defense units have recently repelled hostile unmanned aircraft in the skies over Damascus, successfully shooting down two drones, with no human casualties or material losses.”
The statement did not clarify who was operating the drones or their intended targets, and there was no immediate declaration of responsibility.
Correspondents from Xinhua news agency located in Damascus reported hearing gunfire and explosions, but the situation returned to normal shortly thereafter.
This event marks another chapter in a series of aerial confrontations occurring in Syrian airspace amidst the ongoing conflict in the country.
Syria's authorities have previously accused Israel of launching airstrikes and drone assaults against various targets within Syria, frequently aiming at Iranian-backed militias and positions associated with Hezbollah.
This incident occurs during a period of increased tension, following the capture of the city of Hama, Syria's fourth-largest city, by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militant groups on the same day.
