Kabul, Dec 30 (NationPress) Seven individuals lost their lives and two others were injured in a tragic road incident that took place on Tuesday in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province, according to provincial police spokesperson Ehsanullah Kamgar.

The fatal collision occurred in the Maimay district of the remote Darwaz region during the early morning hours, the official stated without elaborating further, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Just last week, a separate incident saw at least five people perish and 44 others sustain injuries when a bus overturned in the Salang area of Baghlan province.

In a statement released on X, the spokesperson for Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, indicated that the accident happened in the Shawal area, situated north of Salang, at approximately 2 a.m. local time on Saturday, as reported by local media outlet Pajhwok Afghan News.

Haqshenas mentioned that a passenger bus had veered off the road and flipped over due to reckless driving, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to 44 more. He added that the injured were promptly transported to the Khanjan district health center for medical attention.

The ministry urged travelers along this route to heed the guidance provided by officials and to adhere to traffic regulations. Authorities also noted that snow-clearing efforts were underway at various points along the Salang highway.

On December 15, local police reported that three individuals were killed and 16 more injured in two distinct traffic accidents within Afghanistan over a 24-hour period.

A head-on collision involving two vehicles on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in eastern Ghazni province claimed the lives of two people and injured two women. In a separate incident in the northern Jawzjan province, another traffic accident resulted in one death and 14 injuries.

Authorities have attributed these tragic incidents primarily to reckless driving, emphasizing the dangers posed by overcrowded and poorly maintained roads in Afghanistan.
