Tragic Traffic Incidents Claim Five Lives in Nepal

Kathmandu, Jan 3 (NationPress) Five individuals tragically lost their lives in traffic incidents involving two sport utility vehicles in the far-western region of Nepal.

In Bajhang district, four individuals, including a driver, were killed when an SUV veered off the highway on Thursday.

Three victims died instantly, while a five-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital, according to Lokendra Singh Thagunna, a police inspector in the district.

Another fatal accident occurred when a driver was killed after a different SUV plunged off a cliff in another area of the district.

Each year, hundreds of lives are lost in traffic accidents across Nepal.

On December 12, a sport utility vehicle ran off the highway, leading to the deaths of an infant and four others, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

This vehicle, carrying seven people, fell off a road in Jajarkot district around 11 PM local time.

The vehicle fell approximately 700 metres down a cliff, as stated by Hari Ram Dangi, an inspector at the district police.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle lost control due to brake failure, while two injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

This incident marked the fourth deadly accident involving SUVs in Nepal between November and December, with a total of 26 fatalities and 15 injuries reported.

On November 15, another SUV fell off the highway in far-western Nepal, resulting in the deaths of eight people and injuring five more.

This vehicle, which was carrying 13 individuals, fell approximately 300 metres down a cliff around 4 AM local time in Darchula district.

Chhatra Bahadur Rawat, spokesperson for the district police, mentioned that the vehicle was carrying pilgrims returning from a visit to the Mallikarjun temple in the district.

He noted that several individuals injured in the accident remain in serious condition.
