Washington, Oct 13 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump on Monday commended India and referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “a very good friend.”
In his address in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, after endorsing the peace agreement aimed at concluding the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, he stated, “India is a remarkable nation with a fantastic friend at the helm, and he has done an outstanding job.”
This comment follows a recent phone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump, where Modi congratulated Trump on the “success of the historic Gaza peace plan.”
During their discussion, PM Modi also highlighted the “positive advancements in trade negotiations.”
Modi shared on X last week, “I spoke to my friend, President Trump, and congratulated him on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. We also reviewed the significant progress in trade talks. We agreed to maintain close communication in the coming weeks.”
This marks the second dialogue between the two leaders within a month.
The interactions coincide with the visit of the new US ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, who recently concluded a four-day trip to India.
Gor met with Prime Minister Modi on Saturday and presented a framed picture of their meeting at the White House in February, which was signed by Trump with the note, “Mr. Prime Minister, you are great!”
In an official statement, Sergio Gor expressed: “Good evening, it’s an honor and a privilege to be here today. I arrived from Washington to New Delhi early this morning, and we hit the ground running. We had a great series of meetings, including with Foreign Secretary Misri, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Doval. We just concluded a fantastic meeting with Prime Minister Modi, discussing bilateral issues including defense, trade, and technology, as well as the significance of critical minerals for both nations.”
“The U.S. values its relationship with India, and with the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Modi, I am optimistic about our future together. President Trump considers Prime Minister Modi a close personal friend. Just before I left for New Delhi, they had a tremendous phone call, and this connection will continue in the weeks and months to come.”
On X, Gor commented: “It’s an honor to be with PM Narendra Modi this evening. Our relationship with India will only strengthen in the months ahead!”
In response, PM Modi stated: “Glad to receive Mr. Sergio Gor... I am confident that his tenure will further enhance the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
Prior to his visit to India, Gor met with Indian Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, during the Diwali festivities at India House in Washington.
Gor was officially nominated as the US Ambassador to India on August 22 and received Senate confirmation on October 7.
