United Nations, Sept 23 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump once again took credit on Tuesday for resolving the India-Pakistan conflict, a claim that has been dismissed by New Delhi. He also expressed his disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
"I have ended seven wars, all of which were intense and resulted in countless fatalities," he stated during his extensive address to the General Assembly’s high-level session.
He specifically mentioned the "violent conflict between Pakistan and India" as one of those wars.
During a phone conversation in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed Trump that the situation was resolved amicably between India and Pakistan without his claimed involvement.
India maintains that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Major General Kashif Abdullah, reached out to his Indian counterpart, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, to propose a ceasefire.
Among other conflicts Trump claimed to have ended was the one between Israel and Iran, even though hostilities remain and no peace agreement exists.
He criticized the UN for failing to intervene effectively in conflicts, stating, "It's unfortunate that I had to take action instead of the United Nations."
Trump accused both India and China of supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine.
Although he has imposed a hefty tariff of 25 percent solely on India, he warned NATO allies and the European Union of severe repercussions if Russia does not cease its aggression.
"Incredibly, even NATO countries have not sufficiently reduced their dependence on Russian energy, which I recently discovered and found troubling," he remarked.
"Consider this, they are financing a war against their own interests."
"Should Russia refuse to negotiate a peace deal, the United States is ready to implement robust tariffs that could quickly halt the violence," he added.
"For these tariffs to be successful, all European nations present here must align with us and adopt identical measures," he concluded.
Trump further criticized the UN for its perceived inefficiencies in maintaining global peace.
As if to underscore his criticism, the teleprompter at the podium malfunctioned, leading him into a largely spontaneous speech, and the escalator malfunctioned midway.
