Is Trump's First Year Truly Consequential, with India-US Ties at a Low Point?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, Jan 23 (NationPress) Characterizing President Donald Trump’s inaugural year as one of the most significant in American history, a prominent Indian American Republican leader has indicated that India-US relations have plummeted to their lowest point in almost two decades.
Jasdip Singh Jassee, the founder of Sikhs of America and Sikhs for Trump, remarked on Thursday that the Trump administration has accomplished its key campaign promises at an unprecedented pace in contemporary American politics.
“The first year of President Trump has been remarkable,” Jassee stated during an interview. “In just one year, he has achieved what other presidents might have done in a decade.”
Focusing on immigration enforcement as a significant success, he noted that Trump has honored his commitment to secure the US border.
“He guaranteed he would halt illegal immigration and close the borders, and he has accomplished that today,” Jassee explained. “Currently, we have zero border crossings in America, a stark contrast to the 10,000 daily crossings reported under the Biden administration.”
He also praised the administration for its tougher approach to crime, highlighting the deployment of National Guard troops to key US cities.
“He promised to take action against crime, and he has delivered,” Jassee asserted, adding that places like Baltimore are experiencing record-low crime rates.
On economic matters, Jassee pointed out trends in trade, employment, and inflation, stating that US trade deficits have decreased by 35%, marking the most significant drop on record.
He mentioned that the administration has generated 680,000 new private-sector jobs within a year and has contributed to easing inflation.
“We are witnessing the lowest grocery prices in the past three years,” he stated, noting that gas prices have significantly dropped nationwide around Thanksgiving.
Furthermore, Jassee mentioned tariff revenues, indicating that Americans earning less than $75,000 annually, or $150,000 for married couples, can expect a $2,000 check.
He noted that Trump has also acted on commitments to reevaluate birthright citizenship and deport criminal illegal immigrants or those who provided false information on immigration applications.
Discussing the Indian American community, Jassee emphasized that naturalized citizens, permanent residents, and their US-born children are reaping the benefits just like other Americans.
“They are Indian Americans, their children are born here, and their future is in America,” he asserted. “As America strengthens and businesses thrive, Indian Americans will also prosper.”
However, Jassee expressed apprehension about the current state of India-US relations.
“We all anticipated that India and America would fortify their relationship this year,” he remarked. “Regrettably, this relationship is facing a serious challenge. I haven’t witnessed it this low in nearly 20 years.”
He expressed hope that ties between New Delhi and Washington would recover to their previous strength, underscoring the significance of this bilateral relationship for both democracies.
