How is UAE President Supporting Peaceful Resolution to Russia-Ukraine War?

Abu Dhabi, May 2 (NationPress) UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in a phone dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reiterating his nation’s commitment to fostering a peaceful outcome to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to media sources.

During their Thursday conversation, the leaders explored bilateral relations and strategies to enhance cooperation within the framework of their strategic partnership, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

President Mohamed bin Zayed expressed gratitude to President Putin for Moscow's collaboration in facilitating previous mediation successes, highlighting the UAE’s dedication to ongoing humanitarian efforts related to the war.

In response, President Putin acknowledged the UAE’s effective mediation in the recent prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, which occurred last month.

He commended the UAE's persistent and positive contributions in humanitarian matters.

On April 19, the UAE revealed that its mediation led to the largest prisoner exchange since the conflict's inception.

This exchange included 246 Ukrainian and 246 Russian prisoners, alongside the repatriation of 31 injured Ukrainian and 15 injured Russian soldiers, elevating the total number of prisoners exchanged through UAE mediation to 3,771.

Previously, on March 24, President Al Nahyan received a call from Putin, where they deliberated on strengthening bilateral cooperation and ties.

This dialogue exemplified the strategic partnership between their nations and was aimed at serving mutual interests. Both leaders reaffirmed their intention to bolster these relationships across various sectors for the benefit of their citizens.

During the call, Putin expressed gratitude to President Al Nahyan for the UAE's successful mediation efforts in recent months, which facilitated prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, the latest occurring earlier that March.

UAE President Al Nahyan thanked the Russian government for its cooperation, which was crucial to the success of the initiative.

He reiterated the UAE's commitment to continuing its important humanitarian work and supporting all efforts geared towards achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis while alleviating its humanitarian consequences.

The two leaders exchanged insights on several regional and international matters of shared interest. In this context, Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE's steadfast approach in backing peace and stability globally, as well as advocating for peaceful solutions to conflicts.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this represented the 14th successful mediation by the UAE during the ongoing conflict, showcasing the nation’s robust relationships with both parties.
