UN Leader Denounces Truck Assault in New Orleans

United Nations, Jan 3 (NationPress) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres vehemently criticized the truck assault in New Orleans, located in the state of Louisiana, as reported by his spokesperson.
In an official statement, the UN leader conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as to the government and residents of Louisiana and the United States. He also expressed hopes for a quick recovery for those injured.
A man drove a pickup truck into New Year celebrants in New Orleans early Wednesday morning. Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced on Thursday that 14 individuals have been confirmed dead, with many others sustaining injuries.
The suspect, later recognized as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, deliberately drove his pickup truck into a gathering of celebrants on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter on New Year’s Day in a premeditated act of violence.
Jabbar, a citizen of the United States hailing from Texas, allegedly displayed a black ISIS flag from the back of his truck.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell denounced the assault, while President Joe Biden expressed his sympathies for the victims and their families, offering federal assistance. “My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday,” Biden stated.
“There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation's communities.” The investigation is currently being conducted by the FBI, with support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Justice Department’s National Security Division, and local law enforcement.
President-elect Donald Trump also commented on the tragedy, extending his condolences to the victims and emergency responders. “Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department,” Trump remarked in a post on TruthSocial.
