UNESCO Recognizes Mongolia's Nomadic Migration and Related Practices as Intangible Cultural Heritage

Ulan Bator, Dec 6 (NationPress) The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially recognized Mongolia's nomadic migration and its associated practices by adding them to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, according to a statement released by the country's Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth on Friday.

This decision was made during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is currently being held in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, from December 2 to 7, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

The nomadic culture of Mongolia is deeply intertwined with the relationship between pastures, livestock, and herders, as families travel between pastures to allow the land to recover, as highlighted by UNESCO.

The migration process is rich in tradition, with the head of the family deciding on the date for the move, and all family members participating in the preparations, including cleaning the area and preparing the animals, according to UNESCO.

An intriguing element of this cultural heritage is the role of the wife, who dresses in her finest clothing and leads the migration as a sign of gratitude and respect for Mother Nature, as stated by UNESCO.
