Beirut, March 3 (NationPress) The newly appointed UNIFIL Sector West Commander, Nicola Mandolesi, urged both Lebanon and Israel on Monday to avoid any actions that could endanger the delicate stability of the region.
The full execution of Resolution 1701 is critically significant, and we appeal to all involved parties to avoid any actions that could threaten the current fragile stability, Mandolesi stated during a meeting with Mufti of Tyre and Jabal Amel in southern Lebanon, Judge Sheikh Hassan Abdallah, as reported by the official National News Agency (NNA).
Mandolesi expressed, “UNIFIL is entirely dedicated to the communities in southern Lebanon, striving to restore security and stability while assisting the Lebanese army in its deployment throughout the region.”
He underscored UNIFIL's daily commitment to supporting the Lebanese army via joint patrols, knowledge-sharing, and coordinated operational efforts, as reported by Xinhua news agency. “This ongoing initiative is vital for ensuring a safe and stable environment, which is crucial for the return of displaced residents to southern Lebanon,” he remarked.
He also pointed out that UNIFIL's presence fosters collaboration among various local communities, promoting a climate of dialogue and security.
The Mufti highlighted UNIFIL's essential role following the end of hostilities, reaffirming the peacekeeping forces' significance in safeguarding the security and stability of southern Lebanon's residents.
He vehemently condemned the recent attacks on Beirut airport and UNIFIL personnel, asserting that UNIFIL forces are a crucial part of the region's social fabric and that any assault on them constitutes an attack on the Lebanese people.
