Moscow, June 23 (NationPress) The unprovoked aggression against Iran is baseless and unjustifiable, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

"Your visit to Russia occurs during a challenging time marked by significant tensions in your region and surrounding your nation," Putin remarked to Araghchi.

He emphasized, "Our perspective on the current developments is publicly known. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clearly articulated our position, and you are familiar with our stance in the UN Security Council."

Putin highlighted that Russia maintains long-standing, amicable, and consistent relations with Iran and is dedicated to supporting the Iranian populace.

Araghchi affirmed that Iran and Russia share a close and strategic partnership that has evolved considerably over recent years, particularly concerning Iran's civilian nuclear endeavors.

The Russian foreign ministry released a statement on Sunday criticizing the reckless decision to execute missile and bombing strikes against a sovereign nation, asserting that such actions egregiously breach international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council resolutions.

The ministry urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action, asserting that confrontations from the US and Israel should be universally condemned. Russia called for an end to hostilities and a return to diplomatic discussions, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Earlier, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reacted to the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, stating that the repercussions for Israel, labeled as the “Zionist enemy,” will persist.

Khamenei described the assaults as “a significant crime,” threatening retaliation.

In a conversation with X, he stated, “The punishment continues. The Zionist enemy has committed a grave error and must face consequences, which are already in effect.”

The US strikes followed Israeli attacks on June 13 targeting various locations in Iran, including nuclear and military installations, resulting in the deaths of several senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

In retaliation, Iran has conducted missile and drone strikes on Israel. As of Saturday, more than 400 individuals have lost their lives and over 3,500 have been injured in Iran, according to the Iranian Health Ministry, while Israeli authorities reported 24 fatalities.

On Sunday, an Israeli drone strike in the central Isfahan province resulted in the death of three people in an ambulance.
