Washington, Dec 21 (NationPress) US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Saturday that US forces have successfully seized yet another oil tanker near the coast of Venezuela earlier that day.
"In a pre-dawn action early this morning on Dec. 20, the US Coast Guard, supported by the Department of War, apprehended an oil tanker that was last docked in Venezuela," Noem stated on X.
The US military had previously captured an oil tanker off Venezuela's coast on December 10, which the Venezuelan government condemned as "a blatant theft and an act of international piracy," as reported by Xinhua news agency.
In a statement on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump declared a total blockade on all US-sanctioned oil tankers associated with Venezuela, asserting that the United States will continue to seize further oil tankers.
Trump elaborated in a lengthy social media post that "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America. It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before -- Until they return to the United States all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."
In this post, Trump announced "A TOTAL AND COMPLETE BLOCKADE OF ALL SANCTIONED OIL TANKERS going into, and out of, Venezuela" and demanded the return of oil and assets.
The Venezuelan government replied to Trump's declaration, labeling it a "reckless and serious threat" against the nation, claiming it contravenes international law, free trade, and navigation rights.
They stated, "The President of the United States intends to impose in an absolutely irrational manner, a supposed naval military blockade on Venezuela with the objective of stealing the wealth that belongs to our homeland."
