Washington, March 12 (NationPress) The United States announced on Tuesday that Ukraine has accepted its proposal for a 30-day interim ceasefire. The next step now lies with Russia to respond positively.

Additionally, the US has decided to resume sharing intelligence and providing military support to Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, "Ukraine is prepared to halt hostilities and commence discussions, and it will be up to them to respond affirmatively or negatively," referring to Russia.

He expressed hope that Russia would agree, stating, "If they do, we will have made significant strides. If they decline, we will, regrettably, understand what stands in the way of peace." He further emphasized, "The President has been quite clear: he desires the violence to cease. He aims to put an end to the conflict, the casualties, and the suffering. He firmly believes that negotiating a resolution is the only way to conclude this war, and it is always simpler to negotiate peace when hostilities are not ongoing. Today, the Ukrainians have indicated their willingness to act immediately. We hope that the Russians will respond positively as well."

A joint statement from the US and Ukraine noted, "Ukraine has shown readiness to accept the US proposal for an immediate, temporary ceasefire lasting 30 days, which may be extended through mutual consent, pending acceptance and simultaneous implementation by the Russian Federation. The US will inform Russia that their cooperation is crucial for attaining peace."

It further stated, "The US will promptly lift the halt on intelligence sharing and recommence security support for Ukraine."
