Washington, May 2 (NationPress) US Vice-President J.D. Vance expressed the hope that Pakistan will assist India in tracking down the terrorists based in Pakistan who were accountable for the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month.

"Our aspiration is that India reacts to this terrorist incident in a manner that does not escalate into a larger regional conflict," Vance articulated during an interview on Fox News' "Special Report with Bret Baier" show.

"We also hope that Pakistan, to the extent they hold responsibility, will collaborate with India to ensure that the terrorists operating from their territory are pursued and addressed," the Vice-President added.

During his Fox News interview, Vance addressed the attack that resulted in 26 fatalities.

While Vance and his family were visiting India for four days, this tragedy unfolded—the most devastating incident since the Pulwama attack on CRPF personnel in 2019.

The Vice-President's comments are particularly significant given the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.

Last month, while in India, Vance condemned the attack and expressed his solidarity with the victims and their families in a post on X.

The Pahalgam assault, which took the lives of 25 tourists and one local resident, stands as one of the most brutal attacks on civilians in the Kashmir Valley in recent history. The terrorists had meticulously planned the attack at a picturesque meadow, which necessitated either hiking or using pony services to reach.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday amid rising tensions following the Pahalgam incident.

Rubio urged Pakistani officials to assist in the investigation and strive to reduce tensions.

In his initial public comments regarding the attack, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that India will deliver a precise and appropriate response to every act of terrorism.

Issuing a stern warning to terrorists, Amit Shah remarked, "If anyone believes that a cowardly attack signifies their victory, they should remember this is Narendra Modi's India — and each act will be avenged, one by one."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to "pursue" the perpetrators and their supporters "to the ends of the earth".

In light of the Pahalgam attack, India downgraded its relations with Pakistan and implemented various diplomatic measures, including pausing the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling all Pakistani military attaches, closing its airspace to Pakistani airlines, and shutting down the Attari-Wagah border. In retaliation, Pakistan enacted reciprocal measures and suspended the Simla Agreement.

On Thursday, India relaxed its deadline for Pakistani nationals wishing to return via the Attari-Wagah border. However, Pakistan has yet to reciprocate by allowing Indian nationals entry into the country.

Point of View

I maintain that the nation must prioritize security and diplomatic engagement. The Pahalgam attack underscores the urgent need for collaboration among countries to combat terrorism effectively. It is essential for all parties involved to pursue peaceful resolutions to prevent further escalation.
