New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) The US Vice President, who is on an official visit to India, reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday afternoon to firmly denounce the Pahalgam terror attack and assure that the United States is prepared to offer "all assistance" in the collaborative fight against terrorism.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that Vance, while in Agra on Wednesday, expressed his strong condemnation of the heinous terror act in Jammu and Kashmir during his telephone conversation with PM Modi.
"He extended his heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of lives and reaffirmed that the United States stands in solidarity with the people of India during this challenging time. He reiterated the commitment of the United States to provide complete support in the joint endeavor against terrorism. PM Modi thanked Vice President Vance and President Trump for their messages of solidarity and support," the MEA stated.
On Tuesday, Vance had taken to social media to express his dismay regarding the cowardly terror act.
"Usha and I offer our sympathies to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. In recent days, we have been struck by the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this tragic attack," he posted on X.
The US Vice President and his family met with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on Monday evening prior to the bilateral meeting at the Principals' and delegation level between the two leaders.
This marks Vance's initial visit to India, where he and the US delegation toured Jaipur on Tuesday before arriving in Agra on Wednesday. As he concludes his two-nation trip to Italy and India, he is set to return to Washington on April 24.
Earlier on the same day, US President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Modi to offer US support and condolences regarding the terrorist incident that claimed the lives of numerous tourists.
Prime Minister Modi informed US President Trump of his resolve to hold accountable those responsible for the Pahalgam terrorist attack, signaling potential retaliatory measures typical of his response to terrorism.
"President Donald Trump reached out to PM Narendra Modi, expressing his heartfelt condolences for the innocent lives lost in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. President Trump denounced the terror act and showed full support for India in seeking justice against the perpetrators of this atrocious act. India and the United States unite in the battle against terrorism," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X.
PM Modi assured the American President that India is committed to bringing the culprits and their backers of this cowardly and despicable terrorist attack to justice.
