Kyiv, Feb 17 (NationPress) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday that Kyiv will not engage in the forthcoming US-Russia discussions scheduled to occur in Saudi Arabia this week, as reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
"Ukraine will not participate. We were unaware of this," Zelensky stated, emphasizing that Kyiv will not endorse the outcomes of negotiations that exclude Ukraine.
"We cannot accept any agreements made about us without our involvement. We will not acknowledge such agreements," he asserted.
Zelensky also noted that his official visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday is unrelated to the discussions taking place between the United States and Russia, according to Xinhua news agency.
The US and Russian delegations are scheduled to convene on Tuesday to explore a potential resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as per local media.
Representatives from both nations will prepare for future discussions on a Ukrainian settlement and initiate a meeting between their Presidents during the Tuesday gathering, as stated by Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov mentioned that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov were en route to Riyadh on behalf of President Vladimir Putin, adding they will meet with their US counterparts on Tuesday.
Lavrov and Ushakov will brief Putin on the outcomes of their discussions, he disclosed.
The US delegation will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, according to NBC News.
