Thrissur, May 5 (NationPress) A theme song crafted for this year’s Thrissur Pooram, performed by 10-year-old Aditya G Nair, has unexpectedly gained popularity ahead of the much-anticipated festival. Recognized as the "mother of all festivals," this renowned cultural celebration is set to showcase its grandeur on Tuesday.
Titled Pooraperumal, the theme song represents a lively blend of tradition, rhythm, and spiritual zeal.
Produced by Aditya Nair Productions from Mumbai, the track features vocals from Aditya himself alongside Varun T Krishnan, with female harmonies provided by the Harmony Hues Tradition Band.
More than simply a song, Pooraperumal signifies a personal endeavor for young Aditya. “I aimed to create a musical tribute that honors all deities and celebrates the divine essence of Pooram,” he shared.
“This transcends being just a song -- it’s an emotional voyage. Our goal was to encapsulate the heart of Pooram -- its magnificence, rhythm, and devotion.”
The music is composed by Abhijith Sethu and Varun T. Krishnan, while the poignant and devotional lyrics are crafted by Ajeesh Vallachira and Abhijith Sethu. The background score, rich in both rhythm and melody, is created by Ashlay J.C.
Thrissur Pooram traces its origins to the late 18th century, established by Sakthan Thampuran, the Maharaja of the former Kochi state.
The primary temples participating in the event include the Vadakkunnathan Temple, the Thiruvambadi Krishna Temple, and the Paramekkavu Devi Temple.
The celebrations occur in the expansive Thekkinkadu Maidan located in the heart of Thrissur, with spectators lining the circular path around the temples to witness the extraordinary event.
A standout feature is the stunning Panchavadyam, showcasing approximately 250 artists performing on traditional instruments including thimila, maddalam, trumpet, cymbals, and edakka.
The most visually captivating aspect of the festivities is the Aana Chamayal Pradarsanam -- an exhibition of intricately decorated elephants. The eagerly awaited Kudamattom, a friendly contest where vibrant parasols are swiftly exchanged atop 30 elephants (15 on each side), attracts large crowds and is deemed the visual highlight of the day-long celebrations.
Thrissur Pooram also draws hundreds of international tourists annually, making it a truly global celebration of Kerala's cultural legacy.
