After the meeting involving three senior Army officials and the Governor, security forces have escalated their search and area control operations across various parts of the valley and hill regions of this conflict-ridden state, the officials reported on Sunday.

A defense spokesperson stated that the Army, in collaboration with Central paramilitary forces and the Manipur Police, has intensified its coordinated operations in the vulnerable and militancy-prone areas of this northeastern state.

A Manipur Police representative confirmed that 11 additional militants from various groups have been detained, with arms, ammunition, cash, and critical documents seized from them in the past day.

The Army officials met with the Governor on Friday (April 18) to discuss the current law and order situation in the state and the broader northeastern region, as stated by the official.

The three senior Army officials—General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command, Lt. Gen. Ram Chander Tiwari, along with GOC Spear Corps, Lt. Gen. Abhijit S. Pendharkar, and Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Major General Ravroop Singh—met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan.

According to a Raj Bhavan official, the Army officers informed the Governor about the ongoing security conditions in Manipur and other states in the northeastern region.

A police official reported that the 11 extremists were captured across three districts—Imphal East (9), Bishnupur (1), and Kakching (1).

The apprehended militants were affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), PREPAK, United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) groups.

The captured insurgents were involved in various illicit activities, including extorting money from government employees, contractors, traders, and ordinary citizens across different districts.

The police representative stated that pistols, several high-power grenades, multiple mobile phones, two motorbikes, Aadhaar cards, various identification documents, and numerous incriminating materials were seized from the detainees.

Additionally, the Manipur Police executed a special initiative to recover stolen or snatched vehicles from criminal elements, recovering four cars from various locations in the valley districts on Saturday.
