16-Year-Old Girl Abducted and Gang-Raped in Janani Express Ambulance in Madhya Pradesh; Two Arrested

Bhopal, Nov 28 (NationPress) In a disturbing event, a 16-year-old girl was reportedly abducted and gang-raped by two men inside a moving ambulance in Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district.

As per police reports, the incident transpired on November 25 within the jurisdiction of Hanumana police station, situated approximately 30 kilometers from the district headquarters of Mauganj. The Hanumana tehsil of the newly formed Mauganj district borders the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The victim informed the police that two men seized her and compelled her into a Janani Express Ambulance, where she was subjected to gang-rape. This ambulance service, also known as '108-Ambulance', is managed by the state government under a PPP model to facilitate emergency transport for expectant mothers, ailing infants, and families living below the poverty line in rural Madhya Pradesh.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of both suspects, identified as Virendra Chaturvedi (the ambulance driver) and his associate Rajesh Kewat, on Wednesday night.

Both accused are residents of Naigarhi tehsil in Mauganj district, which is located around 50 kilometers away from the Hanumana tehsil where this alleged crime occurred.

'The victim filed a First Information Report (FIR) on November 25, claiming she was gang-raped. Medical examinations validated the occurrence of rape, prompting an immediate search. Both suspects were apprehended from Nagari on Wednesday,' stated Mauganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarna Thakur.

Further information regarding the case is anticipated.

This alarming incident follows a similar case from a month prior, where a newlywed woman was gang-raped by a group of men in the nearby Rewa district on October 21. The victim had been on a picnic with her husband in Gurh town when she was abducted and subsequently gang-raped. Eight suspects have been arrested in relation to that case.

Mauganj, which was previously a tehsil in Rewa district, was established as a separate district comprising three tehsils—Mauganj, Naigarhi, and Hanuman—in 2023.
