Kolkata, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Army and Assam Rifles have successfully seized 35 weapons, ammunition, and explosives during coordinated operations with state police and other security agencies across various regions of Manipur in the days leading up to India’s Republic Day, officials reported.

A senior representative from the Eastern Command stated that the recoveries occurred in both the hill and valley areas of Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Churchandpur, Imphal West, Noney, Jiribam, and Kakching districts.

On January 19, a comprehensive operation was initiated by the Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police in Lungkhongjang Ridge, located north of Bungte Chiru village in the Bishnupur district, resulting in the recovery of a modified sniper rifle, five 9mm pistols, two single-barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition, and other military supplies. The following day, in collaboration with the CRPF and state police, another operation took place near the Khuga river and the borders of Dampi Ridge, where a 9mm sub-machine gun, a .303 rifle, a pistol, a single-barrel breech-loading gun, a homemade mortar, a grenade launcher, grenades, and ammunition were seized.

On January 20, the Assam Rifles acted on intelligence regarding a potential infiltration attempt along the India-Myanmar border near Yangoupokpi in the Tengnoupal district, leading to the apprehension of a young individual.

During the interrogation, the individual identified himself as a member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), the official noted.

On the same day, another operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles near Maohing in the Noney district, resulting in the recovery of a 9mm homemade pistol, a .303 rifle, an improvised projectile launcher, grenades, and ammunition. On January 23, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police executed a raid near Ngamukhong Fungi Ching (Leingangpokpi) in the Thoubal district, where they seized a homemade pistol, a single-bore homemade rifle, ten No. 36 hand grenades, and ammunition. Additionally, in a joint operation with commando units from the Manipur Police, the Assam Rifles apprehended two KCP (PWG) operatives with two 9mm pistols and ammunition in the area between Heirok and Wangjing in the Thoubal district. Furthermore, another raid between Zairawn and Uchatol in the Jiribam district uncovered a carbine, a single-barrel gun, grenades, and ammunition.

On January 24, joint operations in areas between Gamngai and Pheijang in the Chandel district, along with locations near the Potsangbam Khullen hill range in the Imphal West district, led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol, a locally made mortar (Pompi), a nearly 1 kg improvised explosive device, a self-loading rifle, a carbine, a .32 calibre homemade pistol, two 51mm mortars, grenades, and ammunition.

On the eve of Republic Day, further joint operations near Thangjao Mamang Ching and Sekmai (Tendongyan) resulted in the seizure of two .303 rifles, a 9mm pistol, a .32 calibre pistol, grenades, and ammunition, the official confirmed.
