More than 38,000 families across Madhya Pradesh are set to receive keys to permanent homes on 20 June 2025, as the state government marks a major milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The handover event, to be held at Saver in Indore district, will be jointly presided over by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal.

Key Developments at the Saver Event

At the same event, housing approvals worth over ₹2,500 crore will be granted to more than 42,000 eligible beneficiaries under PM Awas Yojana (Urban). The two leaders will also perform the bhoomi pujan — the ceremonial ground-breaking — for the 48.10 km Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Four-Lane Expressway, a corridor estimated to cost ₹2,935 crore.

The twin announcements make the Saver programme one of the largest single-day housing and infrastructure events in the state's recent history, combining social welfare delivery with a flagship road project.

The Indore-Ujjain Expressway: What It Involves

The greenfield corridor will be developed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation under the Hybrid Annuity Model, with a 40:60 funding split. The high-speed four-lane road is designed to dramatically cut travel time between Indore and Ujjain, two of the state's most economically and religiously significant cities.

The project includes 18 underpasses and 19 junction improvement works to protect access for local residents and farmers. Grade-separated junctions are planned along the Western Ring Road and the Ujjain-Badnavar Road. Safety infrastructure — including ambulances, cranes, and patrolling vehicles stationed at every toll plaza — has also been built into the project design.

Impact on the Malwa Region

Officials say the expressway is expected to stimulate economic activity across the Malwa region, with anticipated benefits for industrial investment, trade, logistics, agricultural marketing, and religious tourism. Pilgrims travelling to Ujjain, home to the revered Mahakal temple, are among those expected to gain most directly from the improved connectivity.

This comes amid a broader push by the Madhya Pradesh government to accelerate infrastructure creation alongside social housing delivery — a dual-track approach that state officials describe as central to the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Housing Scheme Context

The PM Awas Yojana (Urban) has been one of the Centre's flagship programmes since its launch in 2015, targeting affordable housing for economically weaker sections in urban areas. Madhya Pradesh has been among the higher-performing states in terms of sanctioned units, and Saturday's event underscores continued momentum in the scheme's implementation phase.

With approvals now extended to over 42,000 additional beneficiaries in a single event, the state appears to be accelerating delivery ahead of the scheme's revised national targets.
