Karur, Sep 29 (NationPress) TVK General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna has declared his intention to visit the families of the 41 victims who tragically lost their lives in the stampede at Veluchamipuram in Karur.
During his visit, he plans to personally convey his condolences and provide financial support to the grieving families. In light of the current tense environment, Aadhav has submitted a petition to the court seeking necessary security measures before his visit can take place.
This announcement follows Arjuna's emotional reflection over the incident nearly 29 hours post-tragedy, where he shared his sorrow on X, connecting his own grief with that of the bereaved.
“In the last twenty-four hours, I have encountered the most profound sorrow of my life. The cries of those lost resonate deeply within me. I am finding it difficult to cope with this heart-wrenching loss,” he expressed.
Recounting his own childhood trauma, he noted, “At the age of five, I witnessed my mother's tragic suicide. The pain of that memory has resurfaced with these recent deaths. I am struggling to find the strength to support these families as they endure their grief.”
The stampede, which took place late Saturday night during a large TVK campaign event, resulted in 27 fatalities from the Karur district alone, with additional casualties from Erode, Dindigul, Tiruppur, and Salem.
In particular, the village of Emur suffered immensely, losing five residents, including Priyadarshini and her young daughter Tharanika, as well as Chandra, Arukkani, and 10-year-old Prithik—an event that has left a profound impact on the community.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his heartfelt sorrow and stated that immediate relief and medical support have been mobilized.
“We are taking every possible measure to save lives and assist the families in mourning,” he affirmed.
Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami extended his condolences while demanding accountability for what he termed inadequate crowd management. “The administration should have been better prepared for such a significant gathering. Those responsible must face consequences,” he insisted.
TVK president and actor Vijay has expressed his commitment to provide Rs 20 lakh in compensation to each affected family and Rs 2 lakh for the injured, labeling the tragedy as “an irreparable loss that no words can soothe.”
Investigations are ongoing to determine the safety lapses that led to this catastrophic incident.
