Kolkata, June 4 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who was part of an all-party delegation that traveled to multiple nations, has decided not to participate in a meeting organized by the Ministry of External Affairs this Thursday. He announced this in Kolkata upon returning from his trip abroad.
Banerjee was included in the all-party delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, which plays a role in India's global outreach following Operation Sindoor, a decisive military action in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror incident.
The delegation comprised members from the Janata Dal (United), BJP, Congress, CPI(M), and Trinamool Congress, visiting nations such as Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia.
He informed the office of the External Affairs Minister about his inability to attend the meeting and stated he would communicate his views regarding the delegation's outcomes in a written format to EAM Jaishankar.
Banerjee also mentioned that after submitting the written communication to the External Affairs Minister, he would address the media.
“During the past 15 days, we visited five countries and attended numerous meetings. However, I cannot attend the meeting on Thursday due to prior commitments. Additionally, the by-election for Kaliganj has been announced, which requires my attention in my Parliamentary area. I will submit my opinions to the External Affairs Ministry in writing and then discuss it with the press,” Banerjee stated.
Initially, cricketer-turned-politician and Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP from Baharampur constituency, Yusuf Pathan, was appointed by the Centre as the party's representative in the multi-party delegation.
Both West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee expressed dissatisfaction regarding the selection process of Pathan, alleging that the Centre appointed him without prior notice to Trinamool Congress leaders, including the Chief Minister.
Subsequently, Pathan was replaced by Abhishek Banerjee in the delegation.
