Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement, law enforcement officials in Odisha's Malkangiri district dismantled a gang involved in the illicit trafficking of Hashish oil, as reported by a senior police officer.
Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinodh Patil disclosed to the press that authorities have confiscated 60 kg of Hashish oil.
The estimated market value of the recovered Hashish oil is approximately Rs 8 crore.
In the process, eight unidentified suspects fled the scene, abandoning their eight motorcycles, which were also confiscated by the police.
SP Patil mentioned that efforts are currently underway to apprehend the eight drug traffickers.
According to police reports, during a routine patrol on Sunday around 11 a.m., a team from Chitrakonda police station received an alert about eight individuals congregating near the Sal tree forest at ESSAR Chowk, allegedly preparing to transport illegal liquid ganja or hashish to a purchaser from neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
Responding swiftly to the tip-off, the patrol team hurried to the location for verification.
"Upon noticing the police vehicle and uniformed personnel, the suspects fled, leaving behind their motorcycles and a plastic bag containing suspicious contraband. The patrol attempted to apprehend the fleeing individuals but they evaded capture, utilizing the dense jungle for cover," the Malkangiri police stated in their press release.
SP Patil remarked that this seizure marks the first instance of hashish oil being confiscated in Malkangiri district and throughout Odisha.
He further pointed out that data from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) indicates that the highest number of hashish oil seizures occur in states like Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.
Moreover, he confirmed that this is a record-setting case in Odisha and represents one of the largest seizures in the country.
