Agartala, Nov 2 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Sunday the necessity for further advancement in the state's cultural landscape to cultivate local talent and uphold its rich heritage.
The Chief Minister declared a financial allocation of Rs 50.25 lakh for the Old Agartala Block, aimed at enhancing the infrastructure of the 'Sanskriti Haat', a cultural initiative inspired by the renowned Sonajhuri Haat from Santiniketan in West Bengal's Bolpur.
CM Saha made these remarks during a celebration marking 100 weeks of the 'Sanskriti Haat' (cultural showcase) at Sen Para in Nandannagar, West Tripura.
He noted that this distinctive 'Sanskriti Haat' was inaugurated on December 10, 2023.
"I had the privilege of being present at its inception. It brings me immense joy to attend the centennial Haat. The organizers have successfully maintained this weekly Haat for 99 consecutive weeks, without a single closure," CM Saha remarked, holding additional responsibility for the Information and Cultural departments.
He highlighted the benefits that culture enthusiasts have reaped from this series of events at the 'Sanskriti Haat'.
"Today, individuals from Tripura, Bangladesh, and West Bengal are aware of this 'Sanskriti Haat'. It has evolved into a highly anticipated event with attendees coming from various regions. Positive feedback has been observed," he added.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister pointed out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on establishing "Lakhpati Didis".
"To date, 1,00,8,000 'Lakhpati Didis' have been established in Tripura, with approximately 4,85,000 women participating in self-help groups (SHGs). This initiative offers an alternative income source. The cultural market is not merely about entertainment; it fosters self-reliance. About 40 to 50 families have enhanced their livelihoods through SHGs, crafting products and selling food items, which also boosts the local economy," he elaborated.
He further asserted, "Culture is indispensable for our survival. It is the thread that weaves together our past, present, and future. Our rich cultural identity in Tripura is a source of pride, encompassing 19 tribal ethnic groups, alongside Manipuris, minorities, and Bengalis. This diversity fosters a vibrant cultural milieu in the state, epitomizing unity in diversity."
Distinguished guests present included Tripura Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, former State Assembly Speaker and MLA Ratan Chakraborty, and Vice-Chairman of the State-level Cultural Advisory Committee Subrata Chakraborty, along with various artists, scholars, and other notable figures.
