Agartala, April 13 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that a cultural hub will be constructed in the state with the financial support from the Union Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry, which has allocated Rs 32.5 crore for this initiative.
While inaugurating the state-level Buisu (also known as Bisu) festival at Karbook in Tripura's Gomati district on Saturday evening, he stated that the DoNER Ministry would provide the necessary funds to establish the cultural hub.
He mentioned that the allocated Rs 32.5 crore will help create a hub equipped with various facilities, including a museum, to preserve, protect, and promote the traditional lifestyles and cultures of all communities.
"The state hosts institutions like the National School of Drama, Lalit Kala Akademi, Sangeet Natak Akademi, and Sahitya Akademi. These institutions benefit the youth, providing them opportunities to shape their futures. This year's Budget (2025-26) has allocated substantial funds for the advancement of the culture and traditions of indigenous peoples," said CM Saha, who also oversees the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of Tripura.
He emphasized that the BJP government is dedicated to enhancing the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, pledging to take necessary actions for their overall development.
Additionally, the state government is committed to safeguarding the customs, culture, and traditions of the tribal populace, as stated by CM Saha.
During his remarks on the Buisu festival, organized by the Tripura Chubulai Buthu Samajik Sansthan, the Chief Minister expressed his delight in attending the event for the first time.
"I learned about your community through this event. I strive to engage in various tribal programs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi frequently advocates for Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, and Sabka Vishwas," he remarked.
He added that the state government is actively pursuing these goals. Buisu or Bisu marks the New Year for the tribal Tripuri community, one of the 19 tribes within the state.
He highlighted various traditional tribal festivals, such as Garia, Buisu, Biju, Hajagiri, and Wangala, being celebrated in Tripura, showcasing the participation and unity among diverse communities.
The Chief Minister also revealed that budgetary provisions have been made this year for establishing a college focusing on the Karbook language in Gomati District.
"The proposed Karbook language college will offer numerous facilities for tribal students pursuing higher education. We have witnessed the governance of the Left parties for 35 years in Tripura and the Congress. However, since Prime Minister Modi assumed office in 2014, tribal development has significantly accelerated," stated CM Saha.
He noted that, thanks to Prime Minister Modi, seven tribal individuals from the state were honored with the Padma Shri awards across various fields, a first in history.
