Suvendu Adhikari Engages Voters During Dol Festival in Mamata Banerjee's Bhabanipur
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 3 (NationPress) With the significant state elections on the horizon in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, is strategically positioning himself to challenge Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her Bhabanipur constituency. On Tuesday, he organized a mass gathering in celebration of the Dol Yatra festival.
During the festivities, Adhikari interacted with monks and local voters from Bhabanipur.
The Leader of Opposition's participation in the Dol Yatra was met with great enthusiasm from both the community and a substantial number of BJP supporters.
Adhikari represents the Nandigram Assembly constituency in East Midnapore, where he triumphed in the 2021 elections by defeating none other than the Chief Minister, with a margin of just under 2,000 votes.
Subsequently, Mamata Banerjee won the by-elections from Bhabanipur, ensuring her position as Chief Minister of West Bengal for a third consecutive term.
While engaging with the Bhabanipur locals, Adhikari also cautioned against “pseudo-secularism” and “atheism,” advocating for “larger Hindu unity” ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
To intensify the competition against the Chief Minister in Bhabanipur, the BJP has established a 'war room' in the area, which Adhikari is personally overseeing.
This 'war room' is located on the ground floor of a residence at 8/1B Chakraberia Road (South) in Ward No. 70 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
It is noteworthy that the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency comprises eight wards of KMC: 63, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 77, and 82.
Since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has consistently garnered significant votes in six wards of the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.
Political analysts believe that Adhikari’s tactical focus on Bhabanipur aims to restrict Chief Minister Banerjee’s movement within that constituency during the campaign, thereby limiting her ability to campaign across the state.
