Bengaluru, Jan 16 (NationPress) With trends indicating a resounding victory for the Mahayuti coalition in the Maharashtra civic elections, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has proclaimed that the BJP and JD(S) partnership is set to win the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections.
On social media platform X, BJP MP Bommai remarked, "The BJP and the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) have secured significant victories in urban local body elections throughout Maharashtra, including notable wins in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Pune, and Nagpur."
Bommai offered his "heartfelt" congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was instrumental in this "unprecedented victory", alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister and BJP National President J. P. Nadda, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
He asserted, "In the forthcoming elections for the five municipal corporations within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) jurisdiction, the success of the BJP–JD(S) alliance is inevitable. This election marks the beginning of the end for Congress," Bommai stated.
Current trends suggest that Mahayuti has surpassed the halfway mark in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, whereas the Thackeray faction has underperformed.
Voting took place for a total of 2,869 seats across 893 wards in 29 civic bodies in Maharashtra on Thursday.
The political fate of 15,931 candidates, including nearly 1,700 participants in Mumbai alone, was determined by the electorate.
Exit polls forecast a sweeping victory for the BJP and Shiv Sena in the Maharashtra civic elections.
Interestingly, allegations arose during the voting process regarding the use of marker pens or "erasable ink," with some voters asserting that the ink could be wiped away using hand sanitizers.
The Thackeray faction raised concerns about the erasable ink, alleging irregularities, yet the Shiv Sena dismissed these claims.
