Jaipur, April 15 (NationPress) Former IAS officer Subodh Agarwal was placed under 14 days of judicial custody on Wednesday by an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court concerning the alleged Rs 960 crore Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam in Rajasthan.

The ACB requested an extension of police custody, but Agarwal contested the motion during the court hearing. After evaluating both arguments, the court denied the ACB's request and ordered him into judicial custody.

Expressing concerns for his safety, Agarwal submitted a request to be housed in a separate cell.

Throughout the proceedings, he challenged the agency's assertions, stating, “You claim I did not respond to your inquiries. Please clarify which questions I allegedly failed to answer.”

Previously, the ACB had compiled a comprehensive questionnaire consisting of approximately 100 questions and conducted thorough interrogations over the last few days. Agarwal, however, insisted that he had fully cooperated with the investigation regarding the case.

“I have addressed every query posed to me,” he told journalists while being escorted to court.

On Monday, Agarwal asserted that from the 37 cases reviewed by the Finance Committee during his time, only four were from his tenure, while the other 33 cases, amounting to nearly Rs 600 crore, were linked to his predecessor. He further claimed that the investigation was selectively targeting cases where “no money was taken,” while overlooking real instances of financial misconduct.

It was reported that Agarwal’s health had worsened during the interrogation on Tuesday evening, but a subsequent medical evaluation confirmed that he was stable.

In another development, the ACB court also denied his request for interim bail to attend the terahvi (the thirteenth-day ceremony) of his mother-in-law.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the ACB scrutinizing financial decisions made during Agarwal’s tenure as Chairman of the Finance Committee in the Water Supply Department from April 2022 to May 2023.
