Ahmedabad, June 1 (NationPress) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has successfully gathered Rs 834.80 crore in property tax through its Advance Property Tax Rebate Scheme, which ran from April 8 to May 31.
Approximately 5.98 lakh taxpayers took advantage of this scheme, with more than four lakh opting for online payments. The program offered citizens a rebate of 12 to 15 percent for paying their property tax in advance. Notably, online transactions alone accounted for Rs 519.26 crore, signifying a notable shift towards digital payment methods.
In terms of zone-wise contributions, the western zone led the collections with Rs 218.55 crore, followed closely by the north-western zone at Rs 190.35 crore. Other contributions included Rs 123.76 crore from the south-western zone and Rs 112.18 crore from the central zone.
Additional revenue sources contributed Rs 67.62 crore from the east zone, Rs 62.04 crore from the north zone, and Rs 60.28 crore from the south zone. Beyond property tax, the AMC also collected Rs 44.89 crore in profession tax and Rs 32.91 crore in vehicle tax, culminating in a total tax revenue of Rs 924.78 crore.
Historically, the AMC has observed a consistent increase in property tax collections through the Advance Property Tax Rebate Scheme. In 2023, collections reached approximately Rs 775 crore, involving around 5.5 lakh taxpayers, with 3.7 lakh opting for online payments. The growth trend is evident, as collections for 2022 were about Rs 700 crore and around Rs 650 crore during the pandemic peak in 2021, spurred by increased digital payment adoption.
Zone-wise collections have generally mirrored this pattern over the years, with the western and north-western zones consistently delivering the highest amounts due to elevated property values and tax compliance rates.
The rebate typically varies from 10 percent to 15 percent, encouraging early payments. Alongside property tax, both profession and vehicle tax collections have also incrementally risen, significantly boosting the AMC's annual revenue from direct taxation.
