Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sanctioned a 33 percent reservation for women in all forthcoming recruitment efforts. This decision comes alongside the approval of development projects totaling Rs 216 crore during its recent Standing Committee meeting held on Thursday.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani emphasized that this reservation will be applied to all future recruitment announcements made by the civic authority.
“The Standing Committee has endorsed a 33 percent reservation for women in upcoming recruitments to foster greater involvement and representation of women within the municipal corporation,” he stated.
The committee also approved a variety of infrastructure and civic initiatives, including the creation of an Urban Health Centre (UHC) and a Sub-Health Centre (SHC) in Hathijan.
Additionally, approvals were granted for projects concerning lakes, water supply, drainage systems, and the replacement of bearings beneath four bridges.
In terms of traffic management, Dani mentioned that AMC has collaborated with the traffic police to pinpoint congestion hotspots across the city.
“The traffic police have advised the opening of 85 left turns to alleviate traffic flow. So far, 55 left turns have already been activated,” he noted.
He further disclosed that the Danapith Fire Station and an accompanying parking structure in the central zone will be available to the public by the end of this month, pending final online approvals.
These facilities are anticipated to bolster emergency response services while mitigating parking congestion in the vicinity. Updating on the Kharicut Canal project, Dani stated that Phase 1, which extends 12.5 kilometres, is nearing completion, with 205 poles already erected.
Beautification efforts will commence in the subsequent phase. A roadshow is slated for later this month, with the foundation stone for Phase 2 set to be laid by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The Chief Minister is also expected to inaugurate the new School Board building on February 13 and launch nine new AMTS buses.
School Board Chairman Dr Sujay Mehta remarked that the new facility commemorates the centenary of the Municipal Primary Teachers’ Committee and will serve approximately 1.85 lakh stakeholders, including 1.7 lakh students, 5,000 teachers, and 8,000 pensioners.
He added that 80 percent of AMC schools have transitioned into smart schools under the Anupam School initiative.
After an external evaluation, 100 schools will earn the ‘Centenary School’ award, with each receiving a grant of Rs 1 lakh for educational purposes.
Moreover, 100 teachers selected from a pool of 5,000 will be honored with the ‘Stars of the Century’ award and presented with Rs 21,000 each.
Fifteen additional smart schools will also be inaugurated at an event near the Riverfront Event Centre.
Dr Mehta stated, "Educational development in Ahmedabad continues to align with the National Education Policy 2020 and the directives set forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
