Ahmedabad's Ranip locality on Thursday, 23 September 2026, became home to a ₹11.01 crore state-of-the-art museum and e-library dedicated to Dr B.R. Ambedkar, inaugurated by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The facility, built by the state's Social Justice and Empowerment Department, uses digital, 3D, and virtual technologies to immerse visitors in Ambedkar's life, struggles, speeches, and constitutional legacy.

What the Museum Offers

The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National Foundation, Museum and E-Library features murals, curated exhibitions, and virtual reconstructions of Ambedkar's landmark speeches. Light-and-sound presentations, hyper-reality displays, and 3D experiences bring pivotal episodes — including those linked to the Panch Teerth sites associated with Ambedkar — to life for younger audiences. The facility also houses an auditorium complex intended to serve as a civic education hub.

The inauguration was held on 23 September, a date described by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Pradyuman Vaja as 'the historic day associated with Ambedkar's resolve in Vadodara in 1917.' Vaja said the event was not merely the opening of a building but 'an opportunity to strengthen the constitutional values of equality, liberty, fraternity and social justice.'

Government Schemes Highlighted at the Event

Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi used the occasion to outline the Gujarat government's broader social equity agenda. He noted that the state had raised the income limit for post-matric scholarships from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹6 lakh, widening eligibility for students from marginalised communities. He also cited an allocation of ₹231 crore for social upliftment, educational infrastructure, and cultural preservation on the occasion of the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Maharaj.

Sanghavi also referenced the 'Sankalp Bhoomi' project in Vadodara as a parallel initiative aimed at promoting social harmony alongside the new Ranip museum.

Voices at the Inauguration

Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot said the Constitution and reservation provisions had enabled citizens from diverse backgrounds to participate in leadership. He urged attendees to follow Ambedkar's call to become educated, organised, and committed to social progress. Sabarmati MLA Harshad Patel described the museum as a centre that would use digital and 3D technologies to help younger generations grasp Ambedkar's contributions to education, constitution-making, and social transformation.

Minister of State for Urban Development Darshana Vaghela said the museum, library, and auditorium complex would contribute to the education and overall development of young people, while also highlighting government initiatives on scholarships, housing, and cultural preservation.

Recognitions and Community Participation

The inauguration ceremony also included the distribution of incentive assistance to children of sanitation workers who had secured top ranks in the state under the Safai Kamdar Nigam's incentive assistance scheme. Vijay Parmar, a student with a disability who had resided at the Narsinh Bhagat Hostel in Ahmedabad and was subsequently appointed as an Assistant Professor, was felicitated at the event. A large number of elected representatives, officials, social workers, and citizens attended.

The Ranip facility joins a growing network of Ambedkar-themed cultural institutions across India and signals the Gujarat government's intent to anchor constitutional values in public infrastructure — with the next phase of 'Sankalp Bhoomi' in Vadodara expected to follow suit.
