Ahmedabad, March 27 (NationPress) The Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad has unveiled a state-of-the-art facility known as the ‘Rain Basera’, dedicated to providing safe and dignified shelter for the families of patients.
The new 858-bed structure, built at an investment of Rs 60 crore within the hospital premises in the Asarva area, aims to alleviate the challenges faced by families struggling to find affordable accommodation close to the hospital.
As the largest civil hospital in Asia, it caters to patients from Gujarat, other Indian states, and even international visitors, particularly those in need of complex surgeries and specialized treatments.
Previously, many families had no choice but to stay in costly hotels or even sleep on sidewalks due to the scarcity of nearby options and financial limitations.
“The ‘Rain Basera’ was established under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Health Minister Praful Pansheriya to tackle this pressing issue,” officials stated.
This new facility is designed to ensure that families accompanying patients enjoy access to clean, secure, and comfortable lodging.
“It will also contribute to reducing congestion in hospital corridors and galleries, thereby enhancing hygiene standards throughout the facility,” officials added.
Covering a built-up area of 24,436 square metres, the Rain Basera comprises a basement, ground floor, and eight additional floors.
The ground level includes a spacious canteen able to accommodate 280 people, a modern kitchen, a TV lounge, a reception area, a bank ATM, and eight shops providing essential items.
Dormitory spaces come equipped with clean restrooms and secure lockers for personal belongings.
Additionally, the basement offers parking facilities for 58 four-wheelers and 91 two-wheelers to ensure smooth traffic management.
The Civil Hospital serves over 1 lakh patients every year, and officials believe the new facility will be particularly advantageous for economically disadvantaged and middle-class families by offering safe and dignified housing options.
They emphasized that this initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to compassionate service and patient care.
