Chennai, June 1 (NationPress) The AIADMK has made a formal announcement regarding its candidates for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections, confirming that no seats will be shared with allies while reaffirming its partnership with the DMDK.
In a noteworthy statement, the party guaranteed that the DMDK will receive a Rajya Sabha seat following the 2026 Assembly elections, along with a considerable number of seats in the same.
The announcement was delivered on Saturday at the AIADMK headquarters in Royapettah, Chennai, by party Secretary S.P. Velumani and Deputy General Secretary K.P. Munusamy.
The party disclosed that Inbathurai, the Secretary of the AIADMK Legal Wing, and Dhanapal, the District President of Chengalpattu East, will be the official nominees for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
While addressing the media, K.P. Munusamy stated, “Our alliance with the DMDK is robust and intact. As part of our agreement, the DMDK will be allocated a Rajya Sabha seat in 2026, after the next Assembly elections.”
He further clarified that there was no confusion or disagreement concerning the arrangement with the DMDK.
“The question of acceptance by the DMDK doesn’t arise. We have announced our candidates after mutual understanding. The continuation of the alliance itself is proof of their consent,” Munusamy added.
The choice to nominate Inbathurai and Dhanapal is part of the AIADMK’s strategies to solidify its organizational structure and reward dedicated party members. Both candidates have been long-serving officials within the party. Inbathurai is recognized for his legal expertise and active involvement in the party’s legal matters, while Dhanapal has a strong following in the Chengalpattu area.
Party insiders suggest that the future allocation of a Rajya Sabha seat to the DMDK is a tactical maneuver aimed at preserving alliance unity and fostering long-term collaboration.
With the political climate in Tamil Nadu anticipated to experience considerable changes ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the AIADMK is striving to keep its allies close and maintain cohesion among its ranks.
The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for June 19, with the AIADMK aiming to sustain its presence in the Upper House amidst a fiercely competitive political landscape.
