Is Premalatha Vijayakant Really in Talks with DMK and AIADMK?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 12 (NationPress) General Secretary of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Premalatha Vijayakant, firmly rejected rumors that her party is engaged in simultaneous alliance discussions with both major Dravidian parties as the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, labeling these claims as groundless and politically motivated.
Speaking to reporters, Premalatha indicated that misleading narratives are being crafted to confuse the public about the DMDK’s political stance, despite various party leaders confirming that no such negotiations are happening.
She raised concerns about how such rumors about dual negotiations could circulate when prominent leaders from the DMK, AIADMK, and BJP have publicly stated that there are no ongoing discussions with the DMDK.
“The Minister for Public Works, E.V. Velu, AIADMK General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran have all stated there are no talks with us. How can this narrative persist?” she questioned.
Her comments were a response to allegations made by DMK leader and Minister for Forests and Khadi, R.S. Rajakannappan, who suggested that the DMDK is in discussions with both DMK and AIADMK.
Rejecting this accusation, Premalatha asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu understand the DMDK's political ethos and integrity.
“The residents of Tamil Nadu are aware of the DMDK and the individual making these claims,” she stated, emphasizing that the party will not engage in what she termed unnecessary political conjecture.
Regarding the possibility of a future power-sharing arrangement, Premalatha mentioned that while such discussions could be entertained in principle, any decision would ultimately rely on the electoral mandate.
“Power-sharing is a topic to be discussed based on the people's directive. It hinges on the election outcomes,” she noted.
As discussions around potential political realignments surge ahead of the elections, Premalatha reassured that the DMDK would make decisions at the right time, prioritizing public interest over political speculation.
