AIADMK's EPS Commemorates MGR on His 37th Death Anniversary

Palaniswami (EPS), the General Secretary of AIADMK and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, spearheaded a tribute event at the MGR Memorial located at Marina Beach in Chennai on Tuesday, commemorating the 37th death anniversary of the party’s founder and former Chief Minister, M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).
Accompanied by senior leaders, former ministers, and party members, Palaniswami laid floral tributes at the memorial, paying homage to the late leader’s significant contributions to the political and social fabric of Tamil Nadu.
AIADMK workers across Tamil Nadu also honored MGR by garlanding his statues at various sites. A solemn pledge ceremony took place, reasserting the party's dedication to the ideals that MGR embodied throughout his lifetime.
In a message shared on social media, Palaniswami reflected on MGR as a visionary leader who propelled the Dravidian movement to the forefront and devoted his life to public service. He stated on X, “On this day of remembrance for our beloved leader, we commit to continuing his vision and reviving the golden era of governance he created.”
The revered actor-politician, M.G. Ramachandran, known affectionately as MGR, established AIADMK after parting ways with DMK in 1972. He served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 for a decade until his demise on December 24, 1987.
MGR's tenure is well-remembered for his transformative welfare initiatives that earned him widespread affection. His groundbreaking mid-day meal scheme greatly enhanced school enrollment and improved children's nutritional standards.
Moreover, his efforts were directed towards rural development, empowering women, and creating affordable housing.
Throughout his political journey, MGR exhibited profound compassion for the underprivileged, ensuring that his policies benefited those in need.
Although MGR passed away on December 24, 1987, his legacy remains vibrant in Tamil Nadu. He is celebrated as a beloved figure, both for his cinematic achievements and his visionary leadership aimed at elevating the lives of the impoverished.
