Hyderabad, April 4 (NationPress) The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has nominated Mirza Riyaz Ul Hasan Effendi as its candidate for the upcoming biennial election to the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency (LAC) seat of the Telangana Legislative Council.

Effendi submitted his nomination papers on Friday, accompanied by party MLAs Ahmed Balala and Mir Zulfekhar Ali.

If elected, this will mark Effendi's second term as an MLC, following the conclusion of his first term last month.

The electorate for the Hyderabad LAC is made up of 110 voters, including corporators, MLAs, and MPs. The AIMIM holds a majority with 49 votes, while the BRS has 25 and the Congress has 14. The remaining voters are affiliated with the BJP.

The ruling Congress party has opted not to field a candidate for the April 23 election and is expected to back the AIMIM.

Notably, the main opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), is also not participating in this election.

Friday marked the final day for nomination submissions. N. Gautham Rao has registered as the BJP candidate.

Gautham Rao previously served as the President of the BJP's Hyderabad Central district.

The scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for April 7, with April 9 being the last date for withdrawal. Voting will occur on April 23, and the counting of votes will take place on April 25.

The term of the current MLC, M.S. Prabhakar, concludes on May 1 this year.

Sitting MLC Prabhakar was elected on a BRS ticket in the last election but shifted his allegiance to the Congress in July of the previous year.

Recently, five MLC vacancies from the MLA quota were filled unanimously, with three candidates from the Congress, one from its ally, the Communist Party of India (CPI), and one from the BRS being elected unopposed.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay has accused the AIMIM, BRS, and Congress of collusion, describing it as Telangana's love triangle.

He stated, "The non-existent delimitation issue has united the three parties. They jointly opposed the Centre on the Waqf Board Bill in Parliament. Now, both BRS and Congress have refrained from contesting the Hyderabad MLC elections to ensure AIMIM's victory," Bandi Sanjay shared on X.

He further added, "Rahul Gandhi, your Congress is partnering with the same BRS and MIM that you falsely accused the BJP of aligning with during elections. Next time, before making unfounded statements for votes, check your own house before pointing fingers. Hypocrisy is evident & Telangana is watching."
