Jammu, March 3 (NationPress) During the address by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday, the solitary Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) MLA, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, initiated a protest within the central hall.

As the Lt. Governor began his speech, holding a placard, AIP MLA Sheikh Khursheed vocally challenged numerous policies of the administration and called for justice for the victims of recent killings in Baramulla and Kathua.

He also urged for the reinstatement of Articles 370 and 35A, asserting that their removal had deprived Jammu and Kashmir of its unique status and rights.

Ahmad called for the release of all political prisoners, stating that detaining leaders, activists, and youth without trial was undemocratic.

Additionally, he sought justice for the families of two individuals killed in Baramulla and Kathua, urging the administration to carry out a fair investigation and provide compensation to the victims’ families.

Ahmad is the sibling of AIP founder and Lok Sabha member, Engineer Rashid, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail in Delhi.

Khursheed Ahmad secured victory in the Legislative Assembly elections last year as the AIP candidate from the Langate constituency in the Kupwara district.

This constituency was previously represented in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly by Engineer Rashid on two occasions.

After being elected to the Lok Sabha, Engineer Rashid nominated his brother from Langate.

Engineer Rashid triumphed in the Lok Sabha elections by defeating National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah with a margin exceeding two lakh votes.

He submitted his nomination papers from Tihar Jail for the Lok Sabha polls and was later granted interim bail for a brief period due to the ill health of his elderly parents.

Rashid campaigned for AIP candidates during the J&K Assembly elections after receiving interim bail, but failed to make a significant impact, resulting in losses for all AIP candidates except for Sheikh Khurshid Ahmad.
